The minister for works and transport Fred Byamukama has confirmed the completion of first phase of Kabalega airport in Hoima, saying they are currently in final stages of gazzeting it as an international stage, noting that once all this is done, the president will officially commission.
The minister disclosed this as the airport received the first passenger aircraft, that brought the Libya and Uganda cranes teams a head of the 29th September 2026 AFCON qualifiers at Hoima city stadium.
Byamukama said, the first phase which cost shillings 1.2 trillion, is complete, while the second phase for the construction of a passenger terminal that can accommodate one thousand passengers at peak time is set to be begin with shillings 232 billion already allocated.
The minister equally said, they are in final stages of gazetting the airport to an international airport, confirming that the international aviation body is in the country to assess the airport for the same.
The minister for Science innovation and technology engineer Jonard Asiimwe and other Bunyoro leaders, national council of sports officials graced the event.
