Hotel owners in Bunyoro Sub-Region selected to host AFCON 2027 guests are yet to receive funding from Uganda development bank (UDB) to upgrade their hotels to four- and five-star grade.
The government allocated UGX 102bn for hotel infrastructure and development in the Bunyoro sub-region to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
This financial support is structured primarily as a concessionary loan facility with a friendly 5% interest rate channeled through the Uganda Development Bank to help local hoteliers elevate their properties to four- and five-star international standards required by CAF.
Shs52bn was allocated for the construction of a new 100-bed, 5-star hotel located near Kabalega International Airport and the newly built Hoima City Stadium, shillings 30bn was dedicated to upgrading existing hotels under the Bunyoro Hotel Owners Association while 20bn was set aside to support other qualifying hospitality and leisure facilities across the sub-region.
However, Peter Ogwang, the state minister for sports revealed that the hoteliers who meet the requirements will get the money in two weeks after president Museveni directed the ministry of finance and the Uganda development bank to act.
“I want to assure the hoteliers that the government committed its self and will deliver that money,” he noted.
Ten hotels in the Bunyoro sub-region were selected to host guests during the 2027 African Cup of Nations, with seven in Hoima while three are in Masindi.
