Kataka FC’s preparations for the Uganda Premier League (UPL) debut campaign received a major boost from Mbale political leaders.
This is after Mbale City Woman MP Lydia Wanyoto and Mbale City Industrial Division MP Karim Masaba pledged both material and financial support to the club during the club’s maiden Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Mbale Stadium on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

Through his Personal Assistant (PA), Ahmed Muwonge, Masaba promised to purchase Kataka FC’s preferred jerseys and always provide financial support to the team for away games.
Wanyoto Mutende who encouraged the club leadership to accord opportunities to local footballers pledged to lobby for the renovation of Mbale City Stadium and the construction of other sports facilities in the greater Mbale region before extending undisclosed financial help to the club.
Kataka hopes to host games from the Mbale municipal stadium although the worrying state of the facility may not grant Kataka the club licensing certificate.

Club president Latif Mafuko called upon the people of Bugisu Region and the Eastern region at large to put aside differences and rally behind Kataka FC, since it is the region’s only representative in the top flight.
He said that the recent promotion of Kataka FC to UPL and Amus College FC to FUFA Big League should inspire football stakeholders in the region to work together and help more clubs earn promotion to higher divisions.
Kataka FC secured promotion to the premier league for the first time in the club’s history after spending 10 years in FUFA Big League.
