With just three days to the fundraising event due this Sunday in Garua, veteran rally driver Ponsiano Lwakataka has been boosted with USD10,000 backing from Kansai Plascon.

The two-time national rally champion is raising funds to buy a Volkswagen Polo Proto previously driven by the late Rajiv Ruparelia.
“Our aim is to support sportsmen who are struggling in finances and we try to support them so that they can succeed. Motorsport is one of the areas where we have had interest in and we have moved with Lwakataka for about five years. We are happy to support Lwakataka as he fundraises to buy his new rally car,” noted Santosh Gumte, the Kansai Plascon Uganda Managing director.
Daniel Kayongo, the Plascon marketing manager, confirmed that the company will buy 100 entry tickets to the fundraising sprint that they will give to their customers to go and support Lwakataka.

Plascon is one of the leading corporate companies supporting Ugandan sport with sponsorship to motorsport, kabadi, swimming, rugby, cricket, netball, netball, weightlifting, badminton and football.
“We are proud that a few companies can beat us in sponsoring Ugandan sports. We want to help Ugandan sports talents blossom so that sportsmen and women can benefit from their talents.,” revealed Kayongo.
Away from the fundraising, Lwakataka will be celebrating 25 years of rallying.
“I am grateful to Ugandans. They have appreciated me when I am still alive. Many are appreciated after death, but this kind of support has shown me how Ugandans have appreciated how I have entertained them in the last 25 years of rallying,” Lwakataka noted.
Ruparelia Group, Crown beverages and MTN Uganda are the other major companies that have supported the veteran driver’s cause.
