Uganda Olympic committee (UOC) president Dr. Donald Rukare has committed to support the sport of baseball to develop and in their efforts to secure qualification to Los Angeles Olympics 2028.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of the East African baseball5 U18 championship held at the Hamz Nakivubo stadium.
The championship acted as a qualifier to the African championship where eight countries will battle for one ticket to the baseball5 world cup.
Hosts Uganda and winners Kenya qualified to the continental championship at the expense of Tanzania which was the third side in the three-day regional championship.

Uganda baseball and softball president John Bosco Sempa appealed to the government and the private sector to increase financial support for Baseball5, noting that adequate funding is essential for the sport’s growth and Uganda’s ambitions on the continental and global stage.
Uganda will now intensify preparations with hopes of earning one of the qualification slots to the Baseball5 World Cup when they compete against Africa’s best teams later this year.
