Lady Cranes XVs captain Angella Nanyonjo has praised her team’s character against South Africa despite a 47-20 loss on Wednesday in their second game of the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup 2026, Performance division at RFUEA Grounds, Nairobi.

“The girls showed heart, the next game is a must win for us, we have to bring all we have left to stay in the Performance Division,” noted Nanyonjo.

In a game where Goretti Babirye earned her first Cap, replacing Cabrine Kirabo in the 68th minute, the Lady Cranes produced several encouraging attacking phases that yielded three tries.

Peace Lekuru opened Uganda’s account with a well-taken try, which Bushira Namutebi converted.

Unity Namulala and Mastula Namboozo added further tries as the team continued to create scoring opportunities.

Namutebi also added a late penalty to close Uganda’s scoring. Despite these positives, South Africa’s experience and clinical execution in key moments determined the outcome.

Uganda conceded points from sustained pressure and set-piece platforms which the opponents capitalised on.

This will call for better defensive organisation and discipline while building on the attacking combinations that produced tries.

Uganda will now prepare for their last game against Madagascar on Sunday.
