The Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom, Charles Peter Mayiga, has welcomed the proposed construction of a modern Community Sports Complex in the kingdom by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP). The facility will be built in Buddu County, Masaka City.

The MOU was signed on September 24th, 2025 in Bulange, Mengo

During the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the Buganda Kingdom at Bulange, Mengo on Wednesday 24th September 2025, the kingdom confirmed that ten acres have already been provided for the establishment of the modern sports complex in Buddu -Masaka City.

The MOU marks a strategic partnership between the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the Buganda Kingdom focusing on the construction of the Community Sports Complex and environmental efforts under the “Ekibira kya Kabaka” tree-growing initiative.

Katikkiro emphasized that, just like the discovery of natural resources, talent can be a catalyst for economic growth and transformation.

“National resources are endowments but can only be useful when they are exploited. Natural resources are comparable to talents. If you are endowed with a talent of athleticism but you do not participate in any sport, it is as if you have no talent,” noted Mayiga.
