Uganda is making a long-awaited return to the World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) after a 15-year absence, with the national women’s team set to compete at the 2025 edition in Doha, Qatar.
The breakthrough was powered by standout players Jemimah Nakawala and Parvin Judith Nangonzi, whose exceptional performances – including a gold at the 2024 Regional Senior Championships in Kampala and a historic bronze at the Africa Senior Championships (Uganda’s first continental table tennis medal in 25 years) – earned the country crucial qualification points.
Uganda Table Tennis Association President Robert Jjagwe credited the duo’s hard work, alongside dedicated coaching and government support, for achieving qualification in an era where it’s no longer automatic.
With the team departing on May 16 and set to return on May 25, Uganda’s paddlers are poised to proudly fly the flag on the world stage once again.
