Liverpool FC have entered advanced talks to sign Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen as they prepare for the departure of star full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to leave on a free transfer – reportedly to Real Madrid – at season’s end.

According to club sources, the 24-year-old Frimpong has a €35 million release clause and has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting full-backs, making him a natural successor to Alexander-Arnold on Liverpool’s back line.

The deal, which is at an advanced stage, would see Frimpong reunite with familiar faces: he spent nine years in Manchester City’s academy (qualifying him as home-grown in England) and shares Dutch national ties with Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, and coach (reports link Arne Slot to Liverpool).

Liverpool’s proactive move comes as Alexander-Arnold’s exit leaves a big void – but manager Jürgen Klopp will be counting on Frimpong’s attacking flair and defensive tenacity to slot in seamlessly.

The Dutchman has been integral to Leverkusen’s success, helping them to a Bundesliga title and Europa League final last year, and is keen on a Premier League return to further his career.
