The Uganda senior national men’s basketball team, the Silverbacks, have returned to work this Thursday 07th, August, 2025 after a day off. The Silverbacks are currently camped in South Africa and will have a practice game against the Soweto Panthers at 8pm Uganda time.

Meanwhile, star player Ishmail Wainright won’t be part of the team, according to Brian Tuka, the team’s media attaché.

“It was a last-minute decision and the Hapoel Tel Aviv forward will be replaced by Jacksen Moni. He will be with the team for the practice game later in the evening,” Tuka communicated.

Head coach George Galanopoulos together with players Ivan Muhwezi and John Deng Gue are happy with the progress. Muhwezi, Fayed Baale and Joel Kayiira are the only home-based players in the squad.

Uganda is drawn in group D alongside Senegal, Mali and Egypt for the tournament due August 12–24 in Angola.
