The Kings Baton Relay was launched in Uganda on Wednesday July 3rd, 2025 launched ahead of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games due July 23rd to August 2nd. As the tradition, all the 74 commonwealth games associations (CGAs) host the King’s Baton relay in a global event to mark the countdown to the commonwealth games.
At the Uganda Olympics committee (UOC) offices in Lugogo, the launch was graced by H.E. Tiffany Kirlew, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Uganda, UOC Second Vice president Moses Mwase, International Olympic committee (IOC) member William Blick, National council of sports (NCS) Acting Assistant General Secretary Sarah Chelangat among other invited guests.

Unlike past relays, this year each of the 74 Commonwealth nations and territories received their own baton, engineered in Glasgow from sustainably sourced Scottish ash allowing each country to decorate them in their own style.
Uganda’s King’s Baton Relay is expected to make a stop at the State House, Kapchorwa at the Athletes centre, the Uganda Aquatics National Championships, Namboole stadium and Lake Victoria community.
Uganda that has competed in the Commonwealth Games since 1954, fielded 72 athletes in 12 disciplines in the 2022 Birmingham edition, managing to win five medals including three gold and two silver to finish 16th overall.
The 2026 official Baton Relay will be the longest-ever relay for a Commonwealth Games.
