The 15th East Africa inter-parliamentary games officially ended on Tuesday, 16th December, 2025 with a closing ceremony held at the Parliament of Uganda in Kampala. Deputy speaker Thomas Tayebwa presided over the colorful closing ceremony that was broadcast live on NBS Sport.

Tayebwa (L) welcomed by localorganising committe chairman Hon. Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri municipality MP)

He assured foreign parliamentarians that Uganda will be conducive for tourism and investment even during and after the forthcoming elections next year.

“So, I request that as you were running at the field so quickly, when we ring the bell for plenary, you should also run and attend plenary because to plenary you are always crawling but on field you were running,” Tayebwa lightly told legislators.

He also almost broke their ribs when he eluded the members’ night life during the two-week games.

“In Kampala we do not have facial recognition cameras, because some of you were in corners that I have never been to. But your videos will not come out, so be assured.”

Tayebwa also assured members of a peaceful election season as the 2026 polls approach.

“We are in an election period and we promise you as the government, we are doing everything possible to have a free and fair election. So, if you are doing any business here, or if you have a relative, you do not need to panic because of the elections we are having because Ugandans have already decided that we have to protect the gains that we have as a country,” concluded Tayebwa, who also played to second place as he captained Uganda golf team.

The hosts Uganda struck gold in different sports disciplines including women’s athletics, netball, basketball, women’s volleyball, women’s golf, football, women’s walking race and women’s darts.

In the overall assessment, Ugandan women were the standout performers, dominating across nearly all disciplines and carrying the nation to the top of the table while Kenyan men were the most impressive.

Unlike the previous editions, there was no overall winner crowned in a bid to foster camaraderie, mutual understanding, and collaboration

Somalia will host the next 16th edition.
