The Deputy Speaker of Ugandan Parliament, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has urged members of Parliament to embrace sports as a tool for unity and transformation.
Tayebwa made the call while representing President Museveni to officially launch the 2025 East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games at the Kololo independence Grounds on Saturday, 6th December.
“The President reminded us that this event must reflect more than sport, it should symbolise our shared commitment to the prosperity and integration of the East African Community. He emphasised that these games are not about who scores the most goals or tops the medal table, they are a celebration of a community of brothers and sisters. Even teams that don’t score should be celebrated, because participation itself strengthens unity,” Tayebwa noted.
The two-week games that will climax on December 17th have attracted six member states.

Meanwhile, Uganda has dominated the opening games of the 15th East African Inter-Parliamentary Games.
As action kicked off over the weekend in Kampala, Uganda dominated Burundi in football, winning the opening match 4-0 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium.
The momentum continued indoors as Uganda dominated in volleyball, netball, and basketball.
Ugandan legislators say that they have to make home advantage count to defend the overall title.
Beyond the competition, legislators have emphasized the deeper mission behind the Inter-Parliamentary Games to advance integration through the East African Community.

Action continues this Monday with a packed schedule that includes athletics, Tag of War, and football.
Somalia has been confirmed as the next host country of the games.
