Among the five female boxers on the team is Katushabe Angel, a senior five student at Winston Standard Senior Secondary School.

Katushabe who boxes under the University of pain boxing club says that boxing has helped to build her confidence as she labors to become an IT expert.

She shared her excitement after her first call-up to the national team.

“Of course, I was not expecting this. I was so excited and my family was also excited. Being on the national team is not simple, that is why I chose to work hard.”

Despite the continued suspension of boxing in schools, Katushabe has mastered the art of balancing books with boxing.

“I have managed to balance my time, I go to school when I am fixed and then train in the evening after school,” noted Katushabe.

As she gets ready to represent Uganda at the Africa Zone 3 Championship, Katushabe dreams of becoming both a boxing champion and an IT expert.

“I want to become an IT expert in the future as an academic career but I also want to be a boxing champion. Ugandans should expect a gold medal from this championship despite being my first time to box in the national team jersey,” she revealed.

Uganda is sending a team of 16, including five female boxers led by Kassim Murungi as the captain.
