The 2026 Uganda International Woodball Open Championship commenced at the University of Kisubi on Saturday 11th November 2026.
National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary in charge of technical affairs, Milton Chebet graced the opening, representing General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel as the chief guest.

“I want to congratulate the woodball federation for fulfilling the requirements and complying with the Sports law, but what we want you to do is to come up with a well-documented development pathway plan and the players’ safeguarding plan,” Chebet said.
“I have moved deep into western Uganda and found schools playing woodball, which is very promising for a sport that is growing. So, the development pathway will help in talent identification and growth,” he added.
He explained that the safeguarding policy would help fight the exploitation of players and protect them against any vice that threatens their opportunities at both the national and international levels.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Busiro South Member of Parliament, Kenan Opio, who urged sports federations to use sports as a mobilization tool to fight HIV/AIDS among the youth.

Uganda Woodball Federation President Paul Mark Kayongo lauded the government for supporting the sport through the NCS but urged authorities to fast-track the fulfilment of a presidential pledge to help the federation secure its own home and an equipment manufacturing plant to supply the entire continent.
In the opening games of the primary and youth categories, Air Force Secondary School dominated the youth division, sweeping both the boys’ and girls’ trophies.
Air Force boys’ captain, Brian Agaba, attributed their victory to hard work and urged the school’s rising players to maintain the standard.
