The state minister for sports Peter Ogwang has earmarked Kiwafu Playground in Entebbe Municipality as one of the facilities to benefit from the AFCON 2027 legacy project.

Ogwang made the announcement during the launch of the Shyaka Cup 2026 in Entebbe, a three-month tournament that has brought together 24 teams.
The tournament scheduled for August 30th to 20th December will see champions take home Shs30m, a motorbike and cow.
Ogwang said that 20 percent of the revenue collected from AFCON 2027 will remain in the host countries to support the development of local football infrastructure.
The minister believes that investing in community pitches will provide young people with more opportunities to develop their football talents.

The initiative is expected to strengthen grassroots football and create more pathways for young talent to progress from community playgrounds to the national and international stage.
