The National Council of Sports (NCS) leadership is on a benchmarking mission in Senegal as the 2026 Youth Games continue in the city of Dakar.
The mission that goes beyond Team Uganda’s hunt for medals saw board Chairman Ambrose Tashobya and General Secretary Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel visit different sports venues in a benchmarking exercise on maintenance and other infrastructural dynamics.

Away from inspecting facilities, they engaged relevant technical people.
They visited the Yoff-Dakar Community Sports Ground (one of nine legacy community grounds) and at the Complexe Iba Mar Diop, the host venue of Rugby and athletics.
Uganda is getting ready to host the Africa Cup of Nations next year, and the African Games in 2031 – the reason as to why the government embarked on major infrastructure development to that effect, building new stadiums and training grounds as well as reconstructing others.
Tashobya, an architect, is also the Chairman of the Infrastructure Subcommittee of Uganda’s Local Organising Committee for AFCON 2027. Kampala, Hoima, Masindi, Lira and Gulu have all been turned into sports construction sites, while the NCS strategic plan beyond the two major tournaments also has the High-Altitude Training Centre in Teryet Kapchorwa, other centres of excellence, a national academy, and regional stadiums.

NCS leadership says that they are building towards a robust activity and maintenance plan for the facilities, which includes boosting internal capacity and procuring proven and experienced expertise from around the world. In that light Dakar, which already has the facilities Uganda is building.
