Victorious St Mary’s SS-Kitende have returned from Tanzania yesterday, where they won three trophies in this year’s East Africa school games.
As Uganda’s best performing school, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the Executive Director, attributed success to preparation and discipline.
“We do not win these trophies by accident, we prepare well. We laid and built a great and firm foundation,” he noted.
He said that as an institution, they are driven by desire for more success.
“Because for us, we shall never get tired of winning. We are always yearning for more. Because that is what we believe in – we talk and walk winning. Some people get tired of us even winning; they say, we are tired of you winning. Yes, they can get tired of us but for us we cannot get tired of ourselves,” added Mulindwa during a welcome luncheon served at the school in Kitende.
Kitende triumphed in all three games they participated in, including football, basketball, and netball. The excited former FUFA President named the victory a Silver Jubilee trophy combo.
“As we continue to celebrate the silver jubilee, we shall develop our pioneer playground which we used first. This is to celebrate all the sportsmen and ladies who have passed through this school and went on to impact Uganda,” revealed Mulindwa, who urged his charges to start preparing for next year right away.
In appreciation, Mulindwa promised to throw the team a huge beach party when the school resumes while each team member received rewards in millions for the job well done.
The school’s sports Tutor Marion Atwegyeise attributes the success to the support extended to them by Dr. Mulindwa.
“I credit this success to my boss, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa that even though we did not perform to our best, he remained there and encouraged us to push harder and you saw when he came to Morogoro, our teams performed better, with huge motivation and that is why we managed to win,” she narrated.
With the 15th record football title in the cabin, head coach Hassan Zungu has set eyes on the national title that last appeared in Kitende in 2023.
Despite Kitende’s supremacy, Uganda lost the overall title to Kenya by one gold medal, having managed 19 against Kenya’s 2023
