ALMOST: Hoima City Stadium works to be complete by October

The construction of Hoima City stadium is set to be complete by next month before the commissioning is scheduled for December.

The 129m dollar project is part of the facilities that Uganda will use to co-host the 2027 Africa cup of Nations along with Kenya and Tanzania.

According to the Turkish contractors, SUMMA, the construction of Hoima City stadium is at 92% with the project expected to be officially handed over to the government in December. A visit to the 20,000-seater stadium, the night is lit by the heavy stadium internal and external lighting.

The project that commenced in September 2024 is in advanced state of completion with the

VIP and VVIP lounges are already furnished, while the dressing rooms and conference rooms are nearing completion.

Hoima City Mayor Brian Kaboyo is proud of the work so far.

“We are very grateful to his excellency the president and for giving us a very good contractor because they have worked at the pace and had the stadium before the deadline. We have an international stadium, there is improvement in the road network and this will trigger development,” he noted.

With such infrastructure germinating in Hoima, Kaboyo wants more investors in Bunyoro, especially in the hotel industry ahead of the Afcon 2027.

“We want the president to support our hoteliers as they did with CHOGM. We have about 3000 beds and yet we will need more than 20,000 beds during the Afcon.

Currently, the training facility, indoor arena, gym, swimming pool are all work in progress.

The Hoima City stadium and Namboole stadium are earmarked as matchday venues for the Afcon 2027 that Uganda is set to co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
