OLD GUARD: Lukwago named new KCCA FC Captain

Charles Lukwago has been named the new KCCA FC captain ahead of the 2025/26 Uganda premier league season kick off this Friday, September 15, 2025. The experienced goalkeeper who left the 13-time champions in 2021 before rejoining the side on a two-year deal this season was presented to the club board members, staff and supporters by the club CEO Anisha Muhoozi during club’s season opener briefing at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

He will be deputized by Philbert Obenchan, Herbert Achai and Derrick Nsibambi respectively. Lukwago replaces Julius Poloto who joined Entebbe UPPC and assumes the role he once held

“Success in a club also means trophies, unfortunately we have been shy of trophies but we are committing that we are turning the page this year around,” noted Muhoozi as she unveiled the squad and its leadership.

As captain, Lukwago led KCCA to their second CECAFA Kagame Cup crown, ending a 41-year wait for regional silverware on top of winning the club league and leading the club the group stage of CAF Champions and Confederations Cup.

The club that also unveiled the official season kits, has made seven new signings, including coach Brian Ssenyondo, striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe, winger Lazaro Muhindo, midfielder Alfa Sali, defender Enock Walusimbi, and team physiotherapist Afua Namayanja.

With over UGX 300 million spent on the new recruits, the club chairman Eng. Andrew Serunjogi warned of further changes should the results not improve.

“We are not going to tolerate any nosense and we are not willing to stomach abuses. We must win trophies,” he emphasized.

Club Patron and Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago referred to the previous season performance as ‘below average’.

“It is was total humiliation, especially that game when we conceded four against Kitara,” remarked Lukwago.

KCCA FC that finished 5th last season open the 2025/26 campaign away against Kitara FC this Friday as the new league format takes center stage.
