Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai has vowed to deliver her best at the upcoming Tokyo World athletics championships due this September 13th–21st in Japan to make the country proud.
“I must go for that medal because everyone is looking at me. Where there is no Cheptegei and Kiplimo, all eyes might be on me and I am ready to do my best at the competition,” noted Chemutai, who won gold in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the 2020 summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Chemutai, who was inspired to steeplechase by Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, is more hopeful in the marathon team.
“The team is still young but my hope is mainly in the marathon team; those of Victor Kiplangat, Stephen Kissa and also Solomon Mutai, Abel Chelangat and we are praying,” added Chemutai.
Uganda’s team is set to start leaving for Tokyo in batches, starting this Wednesday, 10th September 2025.
The team heads to Japan without prospects Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo who pulled out due to personal reasons.
