The State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang has asked the UPDF engineering brigade that is undertaking the AFCON 2027 projects to get the work done before CAF next inspection in December this year.
In the company of the National Council of Sports Chairman Ambrose Tashyobya and General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel, the minister, was inspecting works at Hoima Boma grounds as well as an accident and emergency ward at Hoima Referral Hospital.
“I thank the contractor for the work well done, the work is moving on as expected. We have just urged them to try to push more because in a few weeks we shall have CAF inspectors to inspect the progress,” noted Ogwang, who added: “I am not an engineer but I see the work is good. I have my technical people who guide me on what is happening.”
Ogwel said that NCS are working to ensure that everything is in order ahead of the Africa continental tournament.
“This commensurate with our better planning that the project for the stadium, roads and hospital is moving on very well. The Booma training facility is moving on very well and in a couple of weeks, they are going to start roofing the dressing rooms. The main base for the construction of the pitch is already concluded and by October you will find everything ready here for commissioning,” noted Ogwel.
Booma grounds is one of the earmarked Afcon 2027 training grounds with works at 50% completion, while the emergency ward meant to ensure safe competition is at 30% completion.
