Mbarara City FC to mark ten-year anniversary

Mbarara City FC will celebrate its 10th anniversary this Tuesday. The celebrations will be held at Africa Coffee Park in Ntungamo, with the company set to invest in the club.

Mbarara City FC was founded in 2016 following the merger of Citizens FC and Wakiso Town Council FC. On the 25th August 2026, this Tuesday, the club will mark 10 years of developing talent from the western region of the country.

As part of its rebranding efforts, the club wants to change its name from Mbarara City FC to Ankole FC, with the aim of better uniting the people of Ankole.

Club president and Mbarara City South MP, Mwiine Mpaka, unveiled the new management committee that includes businessman and head of Africa Coffee Park Nelson Tugume as vice president.

Other members include Francis Mwijukye, Hon. Mercy Kanyesigye, Eng. Jackson Byarugaba, Osborn Mushabe, Benon Akanwanaho, Elone Natumanya, and Asuman Kigongo.

Similarly, Africa Coffee Park is the company that will sponsor the club. It is expected to invest more than 300 million shillings in the club.

Mbarara City finished 12th last season and has added new players who will work under new coaches Francis Mugerwa and Zaidi Byekwaso.
