Two-time champions Kampala University will face off with unpredictable YMCA in the University football league semi-final clash set for Tuesday, 7th April 2026 at the FUFA Kandiba grounds.

The semifinal draws held on Friday also pitted last season runners up St Lawrence university against Mutesa One Royal University in a clash set for Thursday, 9th April, 2026 in Masaka.

The aggregate winners from the two-legged semifinals will play the final.

After surviving Nkuma University petition at the round of 16, YMCA Sports Tutor Emanuel Mukhwana, says that they are the semifinals on merit and ready to go all the way.

“We deserve to be here because the team is strong enough. Even if Kampala university has won it twice, we also want to put up a spirited performance and see the team reaching the final,” noted Mukhwana.

Kampala University sports tutor Martha Soigi says they are ready for YMCA despite being the surprise package this season.

Although I respect them, I am ready for them and ready to play the final,” noted Soigi.

Muteesa 1 Royal University qualified to the semifinals for the first time in the history of the competition and Ambrose Kalibbala, the university’s team manager is optimistic.

“You cannot doubt St Lawrence University because it is big. But we are also big because reaching at this stage is only when your team is big. For us we believe it will only be resilience, character and quality of the players to determine who will play the final,” he noted

Last season runners up St Lawrence University are continuing with the search for their maiden title after failing in the final several times.

Assistant coach Fred Bakisula says that the preparations are starting early.

“We shall not say that being that Muteesa Royal are a weak side, being at the semifinals for the first time, we shall respect them, go there and look for the way of getting the points being that we have been at this stage for the fourth straight time,” he said.

The semi finals will be played on the home and away basis as opposed to the previous editions and according to Michael Kisenyi, the league’s chairman noted that this time, bigger prizes are at stake for the triumphant sides.
