The Nansana Ghetto Day Boxing Championship Gala was launched on Tuesday 17th March, 2026. The event scheduled for May 15th at the Royal Gardens in Nansana aims to raise awareness about the challenges affecting people living in ghetto communities in the area.

While launching the championship in Nansana, the organizer, Coach Kawaga Bamweyana representing boxing coaches in the area said the event will feature local boxing fights and is intended to identify and nurture talent among youth, while also highlighting key social issues affecting ghetto communities.

“We shall have grassroot boxing to showcase ghetto talents. We urge all offices we approach to give us a hand. Government created many offices to give a hand to the underprivileged in the ghetto but there has not been an impact yet,” noted Kawaga.

Ghetto areas in Uganda, especially around rapidly growing urban centers like Nansana, are characterized by high population density, limited access to basic services, and unemployment. The youths in these areas face challenges such as drug and substance abuse, often driven by poverty and lack of opportunities.

However, these same communities are also a strong source of raw talent. Many boys and girls from ghetto areas have shown potential in sports like boxing, using it as a pathway to discipline, income, and a better future.

Over 40 boxers are expected to be in action during the event, which will also serve as a platform to identify and develop local talent, as well as raise awareness about issues affecting ghetto communities.
