Former national team squash player and seed one Michael Raymond Kawooya is taking the sport of Squash back to the grassroots by using holiday tournaments to introduce more children to the less-popular sport.
Kawooya organizes different underage competitions and over 35 kids from different schools turned up for the Kampala Club Ltd Youth Squash Tournament that climaxed over the weekend, with players above seven years taking part.
Organisers aimed at identifying and nurturing young talent while giving them an opportunity to develop their skills through competition.
The youngsters looked impressed with the holiday engagement with many looking forward to becoming stars.
Coach Ivan Wasswa is impressed by the growing passion among the youngsters, believing that their enthusiasm could translate into a stronger pool of squash talent for Uganda in the coming years.
For many of the youngsters, the tournament is more than just a holiday activity, but the beginning of a dream to become future squash champions.
