Uganda boxing federation president Moses Muhangi has called for a united effort towards the development of boxing after years of leadership struggles.
Uganda High Court on Monday dismissed Uganda professional boxing commission (UPBC) request to have an injunction stopping the National council of sports (NCS) from issuing Uganda boxing federation (UBF) the certificate to manage the sport of boxing in Uganda as required by the New sports Act.
“We want to thank Gold that the prayers have not been granted, whatever queries they had have all been dismissed which puts us in a position of clarity after the court making final decision about it. Let us work together to develop the sport because UBF is welcomign every stakeholder – even those who sued us. Let them come to UBF, we can work together and the sport wins rather than fronting selfish interests at the expense of the sport,” noted Muhangi.
UPBC is legally challenging the NCS’s decision to grant a certificate of national recognition to UBF after the new sports Act put both amateur and professional boxing under Uganda boxing federation as the only body licensed by the National council of sports.
“I want to thank our lawyers Phillip Munaabi and Paul Mukasa for representing us, the Attorney General, Minister of sports, NCS because we sued as a group,” added Muhangi, who had been sued 19th times as the UBF president.
The ruling dated September 7th was issued by Justice Bernard Namanya of the High court, civil division.
