A total of 17 Uganda para badminton players are taking part in the ongoing Para badminton challenge taking place at the Lugogo arena.

The 2025 edition has attracted 10 countries including hosts Uganda, Cameroon, India, DR Congo, Sweden, Peru, Estonia, and South Africa.

Experienced Elizabeth Mwesigwa and Hassan Mubiru believe that Uganda has a chance to win more medals from this year’s championship with an improved performance.

“We are witnessing an improved performance in both singles and mixed doubles. Hopefully, we can do better than last year,” noted Mubiru.

Uganda managed just a medal last year after Sarah Nazziwa who won Silver in the women’s singles.

Simon Mugabi, the Uganda badminton association CEO says that 15 countries had expressed interest before five withdrawing due to financial difficulties.

The championship climaxes on Sunday with the prize ceremony.
