The 25 Uganda athletes to the forthcoming Youth Olympics scheduled for October 31- November 13 in Dakar are expected to perform to their best after receiving nutrition products ahead of their trip to Senegal.
The products from Banana Industrial Research & Development Centre and the presidential initiative on banana industrial development were handed over by Rev. Prof. Florence Muranga, the PIBID/BIRDC Director General.

Muranga, who is also the Uganda Olympics committee (UOC) Nutrition Ambassador emphasized the importance of proper nutrition, hydration, rest and recovery in achieving sporting success.
“Dakar marks a historic moment as Africa hosts its first Olympic sporting event. As you join young athletes from across the world in Senegal, you carry Uganda’s hopes and the promise of a generation ready to shape Africa’s future.
Muranga noted that the selected athletes are a reflection of dedication, discipline and perseverance.
“Compete with courage, integrity and respect, knowing that your nation stands proudly behind you. Embrace the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. Learn from one another, celebrate different cultures and build friendships that will endure beyond the Games,” noted Muranga.

“As a food scientist and your Nutrition Ambassador, she encouraged you to make nutrition an essential part of your preparation, competition and recovery. Through our TOOKE nutrition legacy work, we aspire to connect the inspiration of sport with nutrition education and care for children and young people, especially those in vulnerable circumstances,” she added.
This was during the flag off ceremony in Lugogo on Monday, attended by UOC President Dr. Donald Rukare and the National council of sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel.
Uganda will be represented by 25 athletes in seven disciplines, including rowing, table tennis, badminton, cycling, athletics, swimming, and rugby.
