The Uganda Olympics Committee has appointed John Barnes Ssentamu as the media commission head. The veteran UBC sports broadcaster who has for long been a defunct UOC media attaché stayed in the United Kingdom after travelling with the national netball team, the She Cranes for the Vitality Nations Netball championship early this year. Despite the unquestionable experience and qualities, local scribes, including some of those appointed to the commission, look at the Sentamu’s appointment as a vote of no confidence to them.
“I wanted to ask who will be chairing the meetings or perhaps, we shall dump physical meetings for virtual ones,” a member of the commission intimated. The commission has quite a number of top exposed journalists who could ably be heads with many having senior leadership positions at their places of work. Other commission members include; inexperienced Denise Namale (USPA) as the secretary while USPA President Moses Alsayed Lubega, David Isabirye, Michael Nsubuga, Gonzaga Kakeeto, Clive Kyazze, Makhtum Muziransa, Andrew Kabuura, Grace Joyce Kemigisa, Usher Komugisha are members.

In expression of the commission’s importance, UOC President and General Secretary Dr. Donald Rukare and Beatrice Ayikoru respectively are the Excom Liaison officials.
Guided by the Olympic charter, eleven commissions were constituted, each featuring a chairperson, secretary, several commission members, and an Executive Committee Liaison from the UOC board.
