The draw for the Ham Cup football tournament has been held, with the return matches scheduled to be played next Saturday, 5th September, 2026 at the Hamz Nakivubo Stadium.
The winner of the tournament will receive UGX 50 million from businessman Dr. Hamis Kiggundu.
The draws held at Hamz Nakivubo Stadium was for the Round of 16, featuring the 16 teams that qualified from the eight groups.
According to Ruben Luyombo, a member of the organising committee, the competition will become more intense at this stage, and the eight teams that advance will reach the stage where prize money is awarded.
“It is will be a one-leg affair with extra time and penalties in case of a stalemate. This has been done due to the fact that the stadium is busy. The facility will be used by four Uganda Premier League clubs next season including Express FC, Entebbe UPPC, URA FC, and UPDF. These come with women teams and junior teams. But there are also other clubs and entities seeking to use the facility and thus rendering no space and time,” noted Luyombo.
He noted that Manchester United UG fans has registered the most number of fans at the group stage followed by TikTok FC and Arsenal Ug Fans FC.
Two matches will open this stage of the tournament. Tororo Boys will face Namutumba in the first match, followed in the evening by an encounter between Arsenal Fans and Born Talent.
The highly anticipated tournament, which has attracted a lot of support from fans, is organised by Hamz Group of Companies to promote talent. Businessman Hajji Hamis Kiggundu put up UGX 150 million in total prize money.
The teams remaining in the tournament are Tororo Boys, Titans FC, Mutaasa Kafeero FC, Sanyu D Bags, Kafumbe United, Born Talent Mbuya, Man United Fans UG, Shan David’s FC, TikTok FC, Union Boda Boda Sports Club, Block F, Namutamba, Arsenal Fans UG, NURMAK Life Team FC, Best of the Best, and Ngeye Transporters.
In to total, 170 goals were scored in the 48 group stage games with Brian Tumusiime of Mutaasa Kafeero leading scorers with 11 goals.
The Man United Ug Fans team has been the best at bringing in supporters, although the Arsenal fans have been the most vocal. TikTok FC has also created more of a lively atmosphere than the Arsenal supporters.
The runner-up UGX 25 million, while teams finishing from third through eighth will also receive cash prizes. There will additionally be individual awards for players who distinguish themselves.
All matches are being played at Hamz Nakivubo Stadium.
