The second edition of the Ateker Cup of Nations kicked off in Soroti City, bringing together Ateker-speaking communities from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.
Organised by the Ateker Sports and Arts Foundation (ASAF), the tournament aims to promote unity, peace and cultural integration among the Ateker people.

The opening match at Oligoi Stadium saw defending champions Ngora of Uganda beat Kalokol Rangers FC of Kenya 1-0 with the match being graced by retired Bishop Charles Obaikol, who commended the organisers for using sport to promote peace and unity among the Ateker communities.
Soroti District LC5 Chairperson Bob Owiny called on the government to consider constructing a regional stadium in Teso to accommodate major sporting events while East Kyoga Regional Police Deputy RPC SSP Richard Musisi assured participants of adequate security throughout the tournament.
According to Ateker Cup of Nations CEO Isaac Olupot, 48 teams have been placed into nine groups, with the tournament expected to run until August 22, 2026.
