Uganda boxing federation president Moses Muhangi has attributed the boxing poor show at the 2026 Commonwealth Games to what he described as ill preparations.
Uganda presented six boxers in Glasgow with falling short of medals.

Of the six boxers that included two women, four were beaten at the quarter final by English opponents.
In a message shared to boxing WhatsApp platforms, Muhangi noted that the general performance of African boxers was wanting.
“Hard luck to the Bombers. We had 4 out 6 bombers at the quarter finals and all lost to England -which is the competition’s favorites due to our ill preparation, lack of boxing infrastructure in Uganda, inadequate technical skills etc.” he wrote, adding that: “We will continue to engage the National Council of Sports on how to mitigate the above challenges for better performance in the future.”

Muhangi, who during the games engaged in several high-level meetings with World Boxing officials said that: “The whole of Africa has only 8 out of the 64 medals to be awarded! And most likely the African medals will all be bronze.”
Before departure, the Bombers trained at the Hamz Nakivubo stadium gym but missed out on the very important residential camp – seen by boxing frternity as the team’s biggest undoing.

By Thursday press time, Uganda had three medals including two silver and one bronze. The Silver medals came from Para-swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe and 3X3 women basketball side while the bronze came from steeplechase star Peruth Chemutai.
Before the 2026 games, Uganda had won 58 medals of which 35 were from boxing with others coming from athletics.
