The newly appointed Shadow Minister for Sports, Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, has pledged to use his two-and-a-half years in office to champion the interests of Ugandan sports in line with the National Unity Platform manifesto.

Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa – the new shadow minister for sports

Zambaali Blasio Mukasa was confirmed as the new shadow minister for sports in May. He wants to prioritize equitable funding for all sports federations and associations across the country.

“There are certain sports federations and associations who actually do better in terms of representing our country but are less funded while other federations get too much. We need a strong discussion about this,” he noted.

Zambali also wants to advocate for fair distribution of funds earmarked for sports infrastructure development, ensuring that all regions benefit.

“We have seen the national sports budget elevated in preparations for Afcon and the infrastructure has been developed. I wish all the other regions get such national facilities just like we have seen in the Bunyoro, Acholi and Lango sub regions,” added Zambaali.

Godfrey Kayemba was credited for being vibrant in the position

The newly elected Nansana Municipality member of parliament,  who believes that he will be up to the task, replaces Godfrey Kayemba who was much credited for revival of the office.

“While launching the NUP manifesto, we had eleven key priority areas, but our key priority area number five was to create ten million jobs through creative art, industrialization, tourism and sports. I think NUP looked at someone who can stand firm on matters of sports and creative art Zambaali told this website.

After beating other known sports-loving opposition legislators in the house, stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether the new shadow sports leadership can translate these promises into tangible gains for athletes and federations across the country.
