Kampala is hosting the biggest-ever CAVB Zone V Club Volleyball Championship this year, with a record 20 teams confirmed – making the 2025 edition the largest in the competition’s history.
The tournament, only the third edition of Zone V’s club championship, runs from Feb 26 to Mar 4 and will utilize two venues (Lugogo Indoor Arena and Old Kampala Arena) to accommodate the expanded schedule.
This surge in participation (up from just 11 teams in 2023) reflects a major boost for regional volleyball, which Uganda Volleyball Federation President Sadik Nasiwu says is “a testament to the rising competitiveness of volleyball in Zone V”.
CAF’s technical committee recommended Uganda’s bid over Rwanda’s, and local organizers are pulling out all stops to deliver a world-class event. “The championship’s growth shows how our sport is progressing. It will provide a great platform for clubs to test themselves against the best,” Nasiwu noted, after CAF cited rainy-season pitch concerns in Dar es Salaam and awarded hosting rights to Uganda.
Twelve nations are represented, including club powerhouses like defending champions Rwanda National Police (men) and Kenya Pipeline (women).
Uganda as host enjoys a strong presence, fielding five clubs in each gender category (such as Sport-S, Nemostars, KCCA, and Nkumba).
Matches will run daily from morning till midnight, with tickets at UGX 10k and live streams available, as Kampala aims to showcase the best of regional volleyball under one roof.
