Vivo Energy fuels Rugby Africa Cup as more teams arrive

With just days to the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup kick off at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole, Kenya Simbas were the first team to arrive into the country on Thursday July 3rd, 2025 along with part of the Moroccan officials contingent in the country. Holders Zimbabwe arrive this Friday with the Morocco player continent other five teams to arrive in the course of the week.

Local organizing committee Chairman Emmanuel Fudribo says that preparations for the continental showpiece are taking shape.

“Everything is going according to plan and we expect a good tournament. The Captains run is due Monday at Speke resort, Munyonyo where all the teams are being accommodated,” noted Fudribo as the rugby union unveiled Shell Uganda as travel partners for the tournament due 8-19 July at Namboole stadium.

As part of its fan engagement efforts, Shell will run a “Predict & Win” campaign throughout the tournament where spectators at each of the 13 matches will have the chance to predict the closest final score, with winners receiving 50 litres of Shell FuelSave and an official replica rugby jersey, courtesy of the Uganda Rugby Union.

This interactive contest is designed to enhance the match-day experience, foster fan engagement, and demonstrate Shell’s appreciation for its community, according to Geoffrey Elyanu, the Vivo energy Uganda Head of Supply. 

“This sport has a unique power. It brings people together, ignites national pride, and teaches us about strength, strategy, and resilience,” he noted.

The eight-nation tournament will serve as a 2027 Rugby World Cup qualifier with one automatic slot available for the champion.

Zimbabwe won last year’s title while Uganda finished fifth. Action will be broadcast live on NBS SPORT.
