New KOBS chairman to prioritise player welfare

KOBs Rugby Club has ushered in a new Executive Committee following the elections meeting held on Sunday, 11th Janaury, 2025 at the Nob View Hotel in Ntinda.


Darren Rutagwera assumes the role of Chairperson after serving as Vice Chairperson.

He is joined by Simon Peter Kasito as Vice Chairperson, Richard Mutabazi as Secretary, and Muriel Aloka Atai, who continues as Treasurer after overseeing a period of improved financial discipline.

Edrine Ssempebwa will represent the players, while Brian Odong has been appointed Director of Rugby to guide the club’s technical direction.

Speaking after his election, Rutagwera acknowledged the challenges KOBs has faced but expressed confidence in the club’s future.

He noted that the new committee is focused on improving performance by strengthening the coaching structure, placing the right people in key roles, and building a balanced and competitive squad.

“The first order of business for the new excon should be coaching and maangement processes to ensure good coach and management for the team. Then, we are looking at player management so as the club goes back to its tradition as a winning team,” noted Rutagwera.

He also revealed that KOBs is pursuing targeted sponsorship partnerships and deepening the club’s connection with its community.

Founded in 1963, KOBs is one of Uganda’s most decorated rugby clubs, with 13 Premiership titles, nine Uganda Cup triumphs and National 7s championships to its name.
