The National council of sports (NCS) on Wednesday, 21st January 2026, flagged off Kampala Hockey club contingent to the 2026 Africa Cup of Club Champions scheduled for January 24th to February 2nd in Zimbabwe.

The contingent of 28 people that departs on  Thursday aboard Rwanda Air comprises 18 players and 10 officials.

Milton Chebet, the National council of sports assistant general secretary flagged off the contingent with a call for discipline and performance.

“Of course, the government is involved in multi-sports infrastructure development.  The hockey field is remaining where it is and it is going to be improved to the international standard when the Lugogo sports complex is built,” noted Chebet, who urged the hockey leadership to strive and cover at least 60 percent nation-wide as per the sports Act.

He asked the club to be Uganda’s ambassadors in Zimbabwe and remain patriotic throughout the tournament.

“Talk good about Uganda. Do not go and tell people that they are shooting atpeople on the streets after the elections. Talk about good things to attract visitors to our country,” he added.

The delegation will also be accompanied by the President of the Uganda Hockey Association (UHA) Philip Wafula as the Association representative.

Kampala Hockey Club will start its campaign on 24th January 2026 against the School of Environmental Health Hockey Club of Namibia before facing Kenya’s United States International University the next day.

They will play Sharkia of Egypt on January 28th before their last preliminary stage tie against Port Fouad of Egypt.

“We started training mid last year and we have prepared intensively for four months now. We are ready to put up a challenge and do better than we did last time out,” revealed Jordan Michael Mpiima, the club captain.

The side returns to the Africa Cup of Club Champions after two years having clinched bronze in the 2023 edition and Henry Kafuuma, the club’s technical director hopes for the best.
