The Uganda women netball team, She Cranes, have continued with their preparations ahead of their return to international action next month when they feature in the second edition of the Celtic Cup, an expanded tournament scheduled for November 26 to 30 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.

The team has trained for over a week and defender Lillian Ajio believes that the early preparations will immensely help them as players to get ready for the competition.

“We are trying to learn each other’s movements on the court and chemistry is visible now. We want to go and give our all to better our rankings from the 7th we occupy right now,” noted Ajio.

Police netball club’s Specioza Namukose prides in her first summoning to the national team.

“I have learned a lot from the senior players and this has improved my game a lot. I am going to work hard so that I make the final team to Scotland,” she noted.

Mande Amina, the Netball Uganda General Secretary says that the ranking championship will help them fight for their 6th global ranking currently occupied by Scotland so that they can get automatic qualification to the 2027 Netball world cup.

“We shall start residential training next month before we travel on the 23rd. The good thing is that they have been active in the league and it is just polishing them up at the national team training,” she said.

The five-day round-robin competition, created by Netball Northern Ireland, Netball Scotland and Wales Netball, was designed to provide a high-level international platform outside the Netball World Cup and Commonwealth Games.

Uganda, ranked seventh in the world, will join fellow African teams Zimbabwe and Namibia as invitational participants lining up against Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
