Vivo Energy Uganda has unveiled a UGX 50 million sponsorship package to support the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU)’s motocross activities.

Announced on May 15 at Shell’s Muyenga station, this substantial investment is part of Vivo Energy’s community development strategy and is set to bolster the infrastructure, safety, and competitiveness of Ugandan motocross – especially for youth riders.

The funds will provide critical racing supplies, including Shell Advance motorcycle lubricants and Shell V-Power fuel, while also facilitating technical inspections (scrutineering) through Motorcare Express service points at Shell stations.

A major focus is on safety: the sponsorship covers safety reflector vests for FMU marshals, track marking tape, and branded equipment to ensure a safer and more professional environment at race events.

Additionally, part of the support is earmarked for grassroots talent development and upgrades to motocross tracks and facilities nationwide. “This partnership is a strategic investment in performance, potential, and national pride,” said Joanita Menya Mukasa, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, stressing that the values of motorsport – precision, endurance, ambition – align with the company’s ethos.

Arthur Blick, FMU’s Deputy Vice President for Motocross (and a former African champion), hailed the sponsorship as “transformational” and perfectly timed: “Motocross is growing fast, especially among young people. Vivo’s support could not have come at a better time.”.

The sponsorship will be activated at upcoming championship rounds in Lira, Garuga, and Fort Portal, further fueling the rapid growth of motocross in Uganda.
