Ahead of the 2026 local motorsport season start, the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has announced a comprehensive 24-hour insurance policy for competitors, covering accidents on and off the track, both locally and internationally.

Speaking at the drivers’ symposium held at Kati Kati Restaurant, Lugogo, Michael Ochieng, the insurance representative, explained that the policy covers medical reimbursement of up to 20 million Shillings, body repatriation, death, total permanent disability, emergency transport, and rescue, among other services.

“Medical reimbursements of up to 20 million is paid to victims, apart from other services provided,” Ochieng is quoted by FMU media commission.

Drivers have been encouraged to be honest when putting in claims for compensation, with genuine receipts required.

FMU Medical Delegate, Dr. Derrick Okech, emphasized the need for drivers to undergo medical tests, as required by the FIA, as a prerequisite for licensing.

“The standard medical tests outlined on the form are required by the world body, FIA, and drivers may not necessarily do all tests on the form, but when medically assessed and required, they will have no option but to do them,” Dr. Okech explained.

Key sporting rules updates include the mandatory use of onboard cameras as primary evidence in petitions and the introduction of a Team Championship, encouraging teamwork and potential sponsorship opportunities.

FMU Scrutineer, Moses Sseguya, emphasized the importance of safety gear and car certifications, stating that all required safety wear gears should be presented at scrutineering without excuses.

The Federation also presented an eight-event National Rally Championship calendar, despite resistance from drivers who claim it will be a financial burden.

Ambrose Byona, a driver, offered to sponsor the proposed eighth NRC round if taken to his home area in Kabale.
