The Uganda boxing federation president Moses Muhangi says that sending more sportspeople in parliament will amplify the sports voice for a better budget allocation.

Muhangi, who is running for Kampala central Member of Parliament seat says that he has concluded his door-to-door campaigns and the ground is promising.

He says that people living in the Kampala central business area live a life of forsaken individuals.

Muhangi noted that voters still need civic education to exercise their voting rights well.

The key issues we have seen on the ground is that people are extremely poor, people have lost hope but we have tried so much to engage them and to convince them so that they remain part of the electoral cycle. But you can see the mood is low and the voter turnout could be low because voters no longer see value in elected leaders- they have been disappointed for so long,” he observed.

Muhangi who met all his parish coordinators over the weekend believes that the personal touch with the voters during his door-to-door campaigns will work in his favor.

“We just need 200 votes per polling station and we are in parliament. This is your duty now; find them and the victory is ours,” Muhangi told the coordinators.

Muhangi, a former KCCA councilor is standing as an independent with major focus on poverty eradication and better service delivery.

His message has been passionately welcomed by the struggling ghetto voters and the informal sector.
