Chelsea Women manager Sonia Bompastor lauded Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s £20 million investment in the club as “game-changing,” coming just ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Ohanian – who is married to Serena Williams – acquired an 8–10% stake in Chelsea FC Women and will join the board, aiming to build a “global women’s sports brand” around the team.
Bompastor believes the infusion of funds will significantly bolster the club’s infrastructure and competitive drive, particularly in pursuit of Champions League success after falling short in the semi-finals this season.
She also praised the decision to financially separate the women’s side from the men’s, ensuring Ohanian’s backing directly benefits the players and facilities – a boost the coach expects will inspire the squad in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
