Fufa has been asked to enhance football referees’ remuneration in order to curb the growing vice of match results manipulation.

According to former national referee Hasan Basisa, the growing concern of match fixing emanates from the meagre remuneration to the referees, in addition to delayed payments.

“FUFA should make sure that they pay the referees properly. The pay to the referees is still very low and that is why many referees are subjected to bribes,” he observed.

Basisa was speaking after being recognized by the Fufa president Eng. Moses Magogo with the presidential Award during the Fufa General assembly held on Saturday in Hoima.

“This is my first FUFA award that I have ever got since I was born or since I have ever served football,” noted the Kasese-based former referee who was awarded together with two other personalities.

Following his election for another four-year tenure on Saturday, July 5th 2025, Eng. Moses Magogo put curbing the growing vice of match fixing on his priority list.

“We still have challenges of predetermination of results. How are we going to co-exist with the national sports act to ensure that we fight the vice, we believe we have a lot to do,” said Magogo.

A number of match officials have been suspended and banned as Fufa moves to curb the threatening vice of manipulating match results.

However, the local football governing body has also been challenged to ensure better working conditions for the match officials to ensure fair play.
