Federation of Uganda football associations (FUFA) Executive committee member Rogers Byamukama believes that it is a privilege to run as the ruling National resistance movement (NRM) flag bearer for the upcoming 2026 elections contesting for the Masindi municipality Member of parliament seat.
Byamukama who ran as an independent for the same post in 2021 believes that the NRM flag is an opportunity towards his success in this political venture.
“The scenarios are very different and the terrain. As a flag bearer you have a cushion of the NRM manifesto where you can cushion yourself and your job is to align your constituency needs and gaps into the NRM manifesto while as an independent, you are basically chartering your own path. I am privileged to run as an NRM candidate,” Byamukama told NBS TV in an exclusive interview.
A renowned marketer and football administrator, Byamukama wants to focus on health, education, power extension, provision of clean water, poverty eradication and sports development.
If successful, Byamukama who is the FUFA executive committee member heading marketing will uproot the incumbent Joab Busingye of the opposition Forum for democratic change.
Byamukama was at the forefront in ensuring Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania win the bid to co-host AFCON 2027 and later-om CHAN 2025.
He was also a lead figure in ensuring the construction of Masindi city stadium and the renovation of Masindi municipality stadium. He has been credited for developing sports in the Bunyoro region, especially football and empowering youths and women projects.
If elected, Byamukama will join his football boss, the FUFA President Eng. Moses Magogo, who is the incumbent member of parliament for Budiope East.
