Allan Okello has been dropped as the Uganda Cranes Captain for the ongoing Africa Nations Cup (CHAN) tournament. The move came hours to the Cranes fixture against Guinea at the Namboole stadium on Thursday, August 8, 2025.
The Vipers SC player maker captained the Uganda to a 3-0 loss during the side’s opening game. According to Clive Kyazze, an international sports journalist, Okello was accused of a laid-back character who is not vocal to command the team.
The 2024/25 Uganda premier league top scorer has since been replaced by defender and teammate Rogers Torach.
Vipers has produced the most Captains at CHAN, starting with Farouk Miya (2016), Halid Lwaliwa (2021), Milton Karisa (2023), Allan Okello and Rogers Torach (2025)
