Ahead of the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, sports federations have stepped up preparations for the July Games.
Over 50 athletes are expected to represent Uganda, with athletics allocated 16 slots, boxing (6), judo (2), track cycling (1), swimming (4), netball (12), 3X3 basketball (4), para powerlifting (4), weight lifting (3), para athletics (2).

Jocelyn Ucanda, the Netball Uganda President, confirmed that the Uganda She Cranes team to represent the country has already been identified and preparations will start soon.
According to the Uganda boxing federation president, Moses Muhangi, the boxing Champions League competition will be used as a yardstick to select the boxers.
With the possible absence of Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo, Athletics Uganda President Dominic Otucet believes that the void left will be a blessing in disguise for the upcoming elite athletes to replicate the golden duo.
Having been given two slots, Judo President George William Ssekiwunga says that they already have the two athletes to represent Uganda.
Uganda Olympic Committee President Dr. Donald Rukare and Team Uganda Chief de Mission Godwin Kayangwe say that preparations are already underway.

The 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games will take place from 23 July to 2 August 2026, with Uganda looking forward to better its three gold and two bronze medals won in athletics and boxing in the 2022 Birmingham Games.
Uganda is also preparing a team for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games to be held in Senegal, from October 31 to November 13, 2026.
