The Ugandan contingent returns home this Tuesday night aboard Uganda Airlines after their impressive performance at the 2025 Ultimate African Pool Championship held in Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Uganda’s women’s pool team reaffirmed their dominance on the African stage, sweeping aside Namibia 13–1 to retain the Ultimate African Pool Championship title.

Uganda that fielded two teams in the main draw, were untouchable throughout the tournament. In the singles, 2022 African champion Rukia Naiga produced a commanding display to win both the Life One and Life Two finals against teammate and captain Amina Faith Nganda – earning her the Women’s MVP award.

“I’m grateful for this performance. Facing my teammates was tough, but it’s always an honour to win for Uganda,” said Naiga, who now targets her second national open crown in December.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s men came heartbreakingly close to continental glory, falling 13–12 to hosts South Africa in a tense final.

The Ugandans led 10–8 before the home side rallied back in the decisive frame to secure South Africa’s first men’s team title.

“We gave it everything. Losing by one frame is painful, but I’m proud of the team’s fight. We thank the government for sponsoring us to this competition and we promise to do better,” noted Pool Cranes captain Joseph Kasozi.

The stars will now focus on the 2025 Nile Special national Open title that is already underway with the preliminary zonal qualifiers.
