Since Kassim Ouma’s world boxing title win in the early 2000s, no Ugandan has repeated the feat. And back home, boxing fans were cheering on Shadir Musa Bwogi on Sunday, November 24, 2025 as he stepped into the ring against Croatian Luka Plantić, the current WBC International Super Middleweight Title holder at the Olympic Park in Tirana.

Getting to this point of challenging for a WBC International super middle title has not been a walk in the park for Shadir, who came into the fight undefeated in his nine professional bouts whilst his opponent boasting an unbeaten record of 20 fights.

The 29-year old who, alongside his trainer Twaibu Mayanja, carried the Ugandan flag high was down once in round eight and once in round nine before being stopped being stopped on his feet.

Shadir started on the position note – launching powerful combinations from his southpaw stance.

His power and athleticism were however countered by the offensive Croatian who kept piling pressure throughout the fight. Plantic, who was the favorite due to his global higher rank in the division, looked better prepared both physically and psychologically with too much endurance

In all his pro fights, the former national team captain has been considered the underdog but has always emerged victorious — including his memorable win against Jason Medi is South Africa that brought home the ABU Super middle weight title.
