Over 20 players took part in this year’s national badminton trials that ran from January 9th to 11th at the Lugogo arena. Among the objectives of the trials was to seed the national players. Initially, 37 players had been summoned, including 16 ladies.

Top players Husina Kobugabe, Tracy Naluwooza and Shamika Fadilah didn’t take part in
Kobugabe has an injury, Naluwooza was sick while Fadilah is out of the country for her badminton camp training.
On the men’s side, Uganda lost key talents that have to be replaced.
Kasirye Brian, Emuddu Expendito, Agustus Owiny left the country while Amos Muyanja decided to leave the sport.
Lubega Muzafaru and Kenneth Mwambu are the experienced players in the country currently and other players will join them from the trials.
Uganda is expected to travel to Botswana for the all Africa senior badminton Championships before the Uganda international Badminton challenge in the same month at the Lugogo arena.
